Start By:
- Remove the turbochargers.
- Remove the centrifugal oil filter.
- Remove the starting motor.
- Remove the flywheel.
- Remove the crankshaft rear seal.

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to Special Publication, PERJ1017, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products. Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates. |
Note: Inspect all O-rings, seals, and gaskets for wear and damage. Replace if necessary.
- Drain the coolant from the cooling system into a suitable container for storage or disposal. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System Coolant - Change".
- Use the timing pins to time the engine properly. Refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Camshaft Timing". Refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Finding the Top Center Position for the No. 1 Piston".

- Disconnect sensor harness (2).
- Remove two bolts (3) and two bolts (4) and place harness bracket (5) out of the way.
- Repeat steps 3 and 4 on the opposite side.

- Pull flywheel housing (38) away from the engine.
