Start By:

  1. Remove the flywheel housing. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Flywheel Housing - Remove".

  2. Remove the crankshaft rear seal and wear sleeve. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Crankshaft Rear Seal and Wear Sleeve - Remove".


NOTICE

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.

Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.



NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

  1. Remove four bolts (1), plate, (2) and gear (3).

  2. Use Tooling (A) and a suitable press to remove bearing (4) from gear (3).

  3. Remove six bolts (5), camshaft idler gears (4).

  4. Remove thrust washers (8).

  5. Remove idler shaft (9).

  6. Use Tooling (A) and a suitable press to remove bearings (10).

  7. Remove four bolts (11) and remove gear shaft (12).

  8. Remove 12 bolts (13) and crankshaft gear (14).
