Procedure For Installing Steel Core Gasket At The Front Housing And The Flywheel Housing{1151,1157,1162}

Usage:

3406, 3406B, 3406C, 3406E, 3408, 3408B, C-10, And C-12 Truck Engines

New, stronger, perforated steel core gaskets are available for use between the cylinder block and the front housing and the flywheel housing. These steel core gaskets can not be trimmed. The gaskets are sized so that when installed, the gaskets are recessed slightly from the bottom of the cylinder block. Therefore, the following procedure is REQUIRED for installing the new steel core gaskets.

Steel Core Gasket Installation Procedure

1. Clean the gasket faces of the cylinder block, both sides of the front plate (3406 and 3408), and gasket faces of the housings of all oil, fuel, water, dirt, assembly compounds, and any other foreign material.

2. Apply a bead of 8T-9022 RTV Blue Silicone Sealant to both the right and left edges of the cylinder block [marked(X)] prior to installing the gasket. See Illustration 1.

3. Install the gasket on the cylinder block and apply a bead of 8T-9022 RTV Blue Silicone Sealant to the bottom edge of both the right and left sides of the new gasket [marked(Y)] prior to installing the housing. See Illustration 2.

NOTE: For 3406 and 3408 engines, repeat Step 3 after installing the front plate.

4. Install the housings and tighten the bolts as per instructions in the appropriate Disassembly And Assembly Manual.

5. Remove the excess 8T-9022 RTV Blue Silicone Sealant from the "T-joints" at the cylinder block (plate), housing, and oil pan joint. Use a suitably sized, flat, straight edged tool (free of oil, fuel, water, dirt, and any other foreign material), such as a putty knife to remove the excess sealant. DO NOT use fingers or towels to remove the excess 8T-9022 RTV Blue Silicone Sealant. The use of fingers or towels will not leave a flat sealing surface which could result in a leak.

The new steel core gaskets are in effect with 3406C (8PN6386-Up), 3406E (5EK60745-Up), 3408B (28V4933-Up), C-10 (2PN1-Up), and C-12 (1YN1-Up) Truck Engines and adaptable to all earlier 3406, 3406B, 3406C, 3406E, 3408, and 3408B Truck Engines.
