Electric Starting Motor - Remove and Install

Usage:

Removal Procedure


NOTICE

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.

Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.


------ WARNING! ------

Accidental engine starting can cause injury or death to personnel working on the equipment.

To avoid accidental engine starting, disconnect the battery cable from the negative (−) battery terminal. Completely tape all metal surfaces of the disconnected battery cable end in order to prevent contact with other metal surfaces which could activate the engine electrical system.

Place a Do Not Operate tag at the Start/Stop switch location to inform personnel that the equipment is being worked on.


  1. Disconnect the batteries. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Battery or Battery Cable - Disconnect".

  2. Put an identification mark on harness assemblies (1) that are connected to electric starting motor (2).

  3. Disconnect harness assemblies (1) from electric starting motor (2).

  4. Remove bolts (3). Use two people to remove electric starting motor (2) and the gasket from the flywheel housing. The weight of electric starting motor (2) is approximately 36 kg (80 lb).

Installation Procedure

  1. Install electric starting motor (2) in the reverse order of removal.

    1. Tighten nuts (6) and (7) to a torque of 31 ± 4 N·m (23 ± 3 lb ft).

    2. Tighten nuts (4) and (5) to a torque of 2.25 ± 0.25 N·m (20 ± 2 lb in).

    3. Tighten nut (8) to a torque of 31 ± 4 N·m (23 ± 3 lb ft).
