NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

  1. Remove bolts (2), bolt (3), and bolt (4).

  2. Remove guard (1).

  3. Remove nuts (8) and the clamp.

  4. Remove bolt (5) and bolt (6). Remove guard (7).

  5. Loosen clamp (10). Remove air cleaner assembly (9) from the turbocharger.

  6. Remove clamp (11) and disconnect exhaust elbow (12).

  7. Remove clamp (13). Disconnect tube assembly (14) and remove the O-ring seal (not shown).

  8. Remove bolts (17). Disconnect hose assembly (16) and remove O-ring seal (not shown).

  9. Remove bolts (18) and bolts (19). Remove turbocharger oil lines (15) and remove O-ring seal (not shown).

  10. The weight of turbocharger (21) is approximately 30 kg (66 lb). Remove nuts (20). Use two people in order to remove turbocharger (21) and the gasket.

  11. If needed, carefully remove clamp assembly (22) and clamp assembly (23).

Installation Procedure

  1. Install turbocharger (21) in the reverse order of removal.

    1. Put clean engine oil in the oil inlet of the turbocharger after assembly or before installation. This action will provide lubrication during start-up and during storage.

    2. Tighten clamp assembly (22) to a torque of 13.5 ± 1 N·m (119 ± 9 lb in).

    3. First tighten clamp assembly (23) to a torque of 16.1 N·m (142 lb in). Loosen clamp assembly (23) to a torque of 5.6 N·m (50 lb in). Tighten clamp assembly (23) to a final torque of 13.5 ± 1 N·m (119 ± 9 lb in).

    4. Apply Tooling (A) to the threads of new nuts (20) prior to installation.

    5. Tighten nuts (20) to a torque of 70 ± 5 N·m (52 ± 4lb ft).

    6. Tighten clamp assembly (11) to a torque of 13 ± 2 N·m (115 ± 18 lb in).
