Alternator - Remove and Install

Usage:

C13 CE3

Removal Procedure

Start By:

  1. Remove the fan guard.

------ WARNING! ------

Personal injury can result from failure to disconnect the battery.

First, disconnect the negative battery cable. Then, disconnect the positive battery cable.

A positive power lead can cause sparks if the battery is not disconnected. Sparks can possibly result in battery explosion or fire.


  1. Disconnect the negative battery terminal. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Battery or Battery Cable - Disconnect".

  2. Put an identification mark on the harness assemblies that are connected to alternator (2) for installation purposes. Disconnect harness assembly (1) from alternator (2).

  3. Loosen bolt (6) and loosen bolt (5).

  4. Remove bolt (3) and the spacer from alternator (2). Position bracket (4) out of the way.

  5. Remove belt (7) from alternator (2).

  6. Remove bolt (6), the spacer, and alternator (2).

  7. Remove nut (9) and the alternator pulley (8) from alternator (2).

Installation Procedure

  1. Install alternator (2) in the reverse order of removal.

    1. Tighten nut (9) to a torque of 102 ± 7 N·m (75 ± 5 lb ft).

    2. Tighten the V-belt. Refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Belt Tension Chart".
