New Turbocharger Groups Help Prevent Surge (Popping)

Usage:

3306B (5KD2531-Up) (COSA Only) 3306C (7RJ1-Up) Truck Engines

Description of Change:

A new turbocharger group is used on 3306B (5KD) Truck Engines and a different new turbocharger group is used on 3306C (7RJ) Truck Engines. Both new turbocharger groups help prevent compressor surge (popping).

The new turbocharger group used on 3306B (5KD) Truck Engines features:

*S4D turbocharger design.
*Compressor design with improved flow to eliminate surge at lug.

The new turbocharger groups used on 3306C (7RJ) Truck Engines feature:

*S3B turbocharger design.
*Recirculation groove in the compressor housing prevents surge in deep lug. May whistle at lighter engine loads which will NOT cause engine damage.
*Non-serviceable wastegate enclosed by "staked" cover. (22.5 ± .5 psi pressure should move the control rod 0.020 in)

NOTE: Tampering with the wastegate can cause increased engine loads which will cause reduced engine reliability and/or life.

Adaptable To:

The new 6I1695 Turbocharger Group is in effect with 3306B Truck Engine 5KD2531. The new turbocharger is adaptable to earlier engines.

The new 6I0635 Turbocharger Group, 4P9585 Turbocharger Group, and 4P9584 Turbocharger Group are in effect with 3306C Truck Engine 7RJl.
