New Caterpillar Engine Oil Nomenclature

Usage:

The names and formulations of Caterpillar engine oils have been changed. The following summary describes these changes.

*
Former Caterpillar Engine Oils Diesel Engine Oil (DEO) - API CD
Viscosity grades - SAE 10W, 30, 40, 10W30 and 15W40
Engine Oil (EO) - API CD, CE, SF
Viscosity grades - SAE 10W, 30, 10W30 and 15W40
* New Caterpillar Engine Oils
Diesel Engine Oil (DEO CD) - API CD
Viscosity grades - SAE 10W, 30 and 40
Diesel Engine Oil (DEO CF-4) - API CF-4, SG
Viscosity grades - SAE 10W30 and 15W40

The terminology of Diesel Engine Oil (DEO) and Engine Oil (EO) has been dropped. The oils will now be designated as Diesel Engine Oils with the API performance rating - DEO CD and DEO CF-4.

The DEO CD oil is the same oil formulation as the former DEO, but the multi-viscosity oils have been discontinued. The DEO CF-4 oil is a new oil formulation which meets the API CF-4 performance requirements. This API CF-4 oil is now the recommended oil for all Caterpillar Engines except the 3600 Family of Engines. The DEO CD oil is still recommended for the 3600 Family of Engines.

The part numbers for all the mono-grade DEO CD oils remain the same for all container sizes. All EO oil part numbers and DEO multi-grade oil part numbers have been canceled. The DEO CF-4 oils have new part numbers for all container sizes. Consult your Caterpillar Dealer for DEO CF-4 oil part numbers.
