Engine Oil Cooler - Remove and Install

(2) Either Krytox product can be used.

  1. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Coolant - Change" for the proper draining and filling procedures.

  2. Remove tube assemblies (1) and discard the gaskets and the O-ring seals. Use new gaskets and O-ring seals for installation.

  3. Remove cooler bypass body (4) and discard O-ring seal. Use new an O-ring seal for installation.

  4. Remove cooler bypass tube (3) and cooler inlet elbow (2). Discard the O-ring seals and use new O-ring seals for installation.

  5. Remove brackets (5).

  6. Remove inlet bonnet (10) and discard the gasket. Use a new gasket for installation.

  7. Remove oil cooler (9).

  8. Remove bracket (7). Remove bolts (6) and remove outlet bonnet (8). Discard the gasket and the O-ring seal. Use a new gasket and O-ring seal for installation.

  9. Remove adapter (12) and discard O-ring seals (11). Use new O-ring seals for installation.

  10. Remove cap (13). Remove valve (14) and the adapter from inlet bonnet (10).

    ------ WARNING! ------

    Personal injury can result from being struck by parts propelled by a released spring force.

    Make sure to wear all necessary protective equipment.

    Follow the recommended procedure and use all recommended tooling to release the spring force.


  11. Remove bolts (15), plate (16), and gasket (17). Discard the gasket and use a new gasket for installation.

  12. Remove spring (18) and valve plunger from cooler bypass body (4).

Installation Procedure

  1. Install oil cooler (9) in the reverse order of removal.

    1. Apply Tooling (A) to the bores for O-ring seals (11), including the O-ring seal for outlet bonnet (8).

    2. Use Tooling (B) to secure the O-ring seals for cooler bypass tube (3), cooler inlet elbow (2), and cooler bypass body (4).

    3. Lubricate the O-ring seals for tube assemblies (1) with the fluid that is being sealed.
