Til að halda kælikerfinu við verður rúmtak alls kælikerfisins að vera ákvarðað. Heildarrúmtak kælikerfis er breytilegt eftir hverri uppsetningu fyrir sig. Rúmtak alls kælikerfis getur falið í sér eftirfarandi þætti: aflvél, þensluker, varmaskipti, vatnskassa, kæli í kili og lagnir.
