Introduction

The problem that is identified below does not have a known permanent solution. Until a permanent solution is known, use the solution that is identified below.

Problem

Some 316-9954 Water Separator and Fuel Filter As and 382-0664 Water Separator and Fuel Filter As have reports of leaks at the drain valve. Some drain valves were manufactured with different tolerances therefore making the tightening torque different. The assembly torque specifications have been updated to accommodate the variability of mating surfaces of the O-ring.

Solution

Check all drain valves and ensure that the valves are hand tight. If a torque wrench is available, tighten the drain valve to a torque of 2.8 to 3.1 N·m (25 to 28 lb in). Do not use any other tools other than a torque wrench to tighten the drain valve. If leaks continue after you have tightened the drain valve, use the replacement parts listed in Table 1.
