Configuration Parameters

Usage:

3516C MLF
Use this procedure if the diagnostic code in Table 1 is active.

Table 1
Diagnostic Codes Table
J1939 Code and Description  Conditions which Generate this Code  System Response
630-2 Programmed Parameter Fault : Erratic, Intermittent, or Incorrect  The engine Electronic Control Module (ECM) detects that one or more of the programmable parameters have not been programmed.  The ECM may use a default torque map or the ECM may limit the engine to low idle.
The code is active only.

Some system configuration parameters are configurable by the customer in order to suit the customer particular application. The configuration file contains all of the adjustable settings for the monitoring system. The engine is shipped from the factory with default values for these parameters. In most cases, the parameters will not need to be changed. The system configuration parameters must be reprogrammed if an ECM is replaced and/or the engine rating is reprogrammed. System configuration parameters will not need to be reprogrammed if the flash file is replaced. Proper values for these parameters are available on Caterpillar Electronic Technician (ET). Certain configuration parameters are also stamped on the engine information plate.

If the default settings for the parameters have been modified, there will be no record at the factory of the changes. These settings can be downloaded into a laptop computer and saved to a file. The customer can then use the file in order to ease the future replacement of the ECM.

No password is required for programming a new ECM during the first 100 hours of service life. This 100 hour “free configuration” feature enables the customer to tailor some of the programmable setpoints to the requirements of the installation.

Note: If the parameters that are protected with the factory passwords are changed, the Caterpillar warranty may be voided.

If a programmable parameter has not been programmed, the ECM will generate a 630-2 diagnostic code. The unprogrammed parameters will be set to default. Certain aspects of the engine performance and engine monitoring may be affected. Program the missing parameter.

Parameter Descriptions

This parameter represents the fuel system adjustment that was made at the factory in order to fine-tune the fuel system. The correct value for this parameter is stamped on the engine information plate. Only change this value if the engine is rerated or if a new ECM has been installed. Factory passwords are required to change this parameter.

FTS

This parameter is another parameter that represents a fuel system adjustment that was performed at the factory in order to fine-tune the fuel system. Only change this value if the engine is rerated or if a new ECM has been installed. Factory passwords are required to change this parameter.

This parameter sets the engine prelubrication timeout period. Programming this parameter to 0 will disable this function.

Engine Pre-Lube System Configuration

This parameter will set the configuration type of the pre-lube system.

Engine Continuous Pre-Lube Interval

This parameter will set the length of the continuous pre-lube.

Crank Terminate Speed

This parameter determines when the starting motor will disengage.
