Usage:
3208 Engines
The lip-type seal on the front of the crankshaft in all 3208 Engines has been replaced by a new seal group. See Illustration 1. The new seal group is a hydrodynamic seal with threads in the sealing surface designed to "pump" or force the oil into the engine as the crankshaft turns. It contains a dust shield on the front side, and therefore the slinger on the damper is no longer used.
Replacement 7C6660 Seal Groups are shipped with an orange polypropylene sleeve installed inside the seal. The sleeve should not be removed from the seal until the damper is installed. Install the new seal dry. The direction of shaft rotation, which must be adhered to for the new seal to function correctly, is marked on the seal case.
The new seal group requires use of an FT2300 or the 4C4234 Front Oil Seal Installer to assure that the seal is installed to the correct depth inside the cover bore. If desired, this installer tool can be made locally. Obtain a 5P4194 Installer Assembly (used for a different front oil seal) and remove the spacer from the installer assembly. Machine this installer as shown in Illustration 2, and stamp "FT2300" on this reworked part. Scratch out "5P4194" previously stamped on the installer assembly.
