Failure to follow the instructions or heed the warnings could result in injury or death. Proper care is your responsibility.

Activating and Configuring GRADE Connectivity

GRADE connectivity is a subscription available on Product Link devices that will enable cellular services for the GRADE systems utilizing a TD520 GRADE display and EC520 controller connected to a network manager and Product Link cellular radio.

The cellular services for the GRADE system can be used for various purposes. The most common cases are associated with syncing files to and from the machine and obtaining Global Navigational Satellite System (GNSS) corrections from an internet source. These features have been available previously through the Trimble SNM94x modem on Caterpillar CB460 and EC520 Grade control systems.

The GRADE connectivity subscription only provides cellular services to the GRADE system. The GRADE connectivity subscription does not provide registration to Trimble Connected Community (TCC) or credentials to a Virtual Reference Station (VRS) GNSS correction internet stream like Trimble VRS.

GRADE connectivity can provide cellular services for the following features:

Internet GNSS correction stream -

  • VRS GNSS correction stream

  • Internet Base Station Service (IBSS) GNSS correction stream from associated TCC account

Internet for TCC -

  • File syncing (for example: project files, mapping data, and diagnostic files)

  • Remote EC520

Follow the procedure below to setup GRADE connectivity on a machine:

  1. Verify that machine has cellular Product Link device and network manager connected to the GRADE system.

  2. Verify that the network manager on the machine has software part number 577-6316 Monitor Software Gp or later.

  3. Subscribe the machine to GRADE connectivity in the dealer service portal.

  4. Access the Dealer Service Portal using the link below:

    https://dsp.cat.com/

The dashboard for the Dealer Service Portal will appear as the landing page.

  5. Select "My Worklist" to search for a connected asset by entering the serial number and clicking the "Search" button.

    Illustration 3g06354634

  6. The search results page will show the asset. Below the Product Link subscriptions are options for Additional Services. Select "Cat GRADE Connectivity" from the additional service menu.

  7. An alert will appear indicating that this feature provides cellular data services for the listed features. But to utilize some of these features fully, other third-party services may be required.

  8. With the Cat GRADE Connectivity service selected, click "Review & Submit".

  9. Before the final submission, the system will allow the review of current and selected services for this asset.

Note: The Cat GRADE connectivity service will have a promotional period of six months from service start, where the Cat GRADE connectivity service charge will be reimbursed.

  10. Verify that the network configuration in the Product Link dashboard is correct.

    Network configuration screen

  11. If changes to the network configuration are necessary, unlock the ports to complete the changes.

Network configuration screen - Port 8 values

  12. "Port 8" should be set to the following values:

    VLAN - "40"

Device Type - "Cat GRADE Auto Detect"

  13. If changes have been made to port values, the values need to be saved and the network manager should be rebooted. This can take a couple minutes.

  14. This completes the settings changes necessary on the network manager.

  15. While the GRADE EC520 controller is wired to the network manager as ordered from the factory, the GRADE system must be configured to look for the network manager. In the GRADE web interface, access the "Installation Assistant" screen to check or change the settings related to the GRADE connectivity. The setup wizard page should show "Cat Network Manager - Enabled".

  16. The GRADE connectivity setup is completed.

Note: The subscription update from the dealer service portal can take some time.

The GRADE connectivity enables some additional features if TCC and/or VRS GNSS corrections services have been secured for the system. Follow the procedure below for setting up the additional features:

    Connected community - login page

  1. For connecting the machine to TCC, enter the login credentials from an EC520 registered with TCC.

  2. For syncing the files from TCC, a manual prompt may be issued by the operator. The machine can also be setup to sync every 15 minutes in the web interface.

  3. For connecting to a VRS GNSS correction stream, add a correction source and select "Internet". Enter the VRS GNSS correction stream port and credentials provided from the VRS service.

    Correction source screen

  4. Once the VRS correction source is entered and the system has a valid stream of internet data, the correction source will turn green indicating data is being received from the VRS source.

These steps complete the setup of GRADE Connectivity. The features that the GRADE connectivity provide may be unavailable if the cellular service in the machine location becomes weak.
