Electric Starting Motor - Remove and Install

Usage:

D6 AG9

Removal Procedure

Start By:

  1. Remove the bottom guards.

------ WARNING! ------

The Power Train Electric Drive System will contain hazardous voltage levels during machine operation and for a period of time after machine shutdown.

Do not remove any covers that will expose energized electrical components while the engine is operating. Do not remove any covers that will expose the energized electrical components while the components remain energized following an engine shutdown.

Do not perform any type of electrical maintenance on the orange hazardous voltage conductors or the power train components while the engine is operating.

Do not perform any type of electrical maintenance on the orange hazardous voltage conductors or the power train components while the components remain energized following an engine shutdown.

Always perform the safe shutdown and de-energizing procedure before performing electrical service on the Power Train Electric Drive System.

Failure to follow these instructions could result in personal injury or death.


  1. Perform the electrical shutdown and voltage discharge procedure. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Electrical Shutdown and Voltage Discharge" for the correct procedure.

  2. Open left side door assembly (1).

  3. Lift guard assembly (2) and remove guard assembly (2).

  4. Loosen bolts (3) and remove guard assembly (4).

  5. Remove bolts (5) and guard assembly (6).

  6. Remove the bolt and clip (7).

  7. Remove the bolt, the spacer, and clip (9).

  8. Cut cable strap (12) and disconnect harness assembly (11).

  9. Disconnect tube assembly (13).

  10. Remove bolts (8) and plate assembly (10).

  11. Disconnect hose assembly (14) and hose assembly (15).

  12. Remove the nut and clip (18).

  13. Remove bolt (17).

  14. Remove nuts (16) and bracket assembly (19).

  15. Remove bolt (22) and the spacer.

  16. Remove bolt (23) and the spacer.

  17. Remove nuts (20) and plate (21).

  18. Remove bolts (24) and bracket assembly (25).

  19. Cut cable straps (26) and disconnect harness assemblies (27).

  20. Cut cable strap (28) and disconnect harness assembly (29).

  21. Disconnect harness assembly (30).

  22. Position the terminal cover out of the way. Remove nut (31) and disconnect cable assembly (32).

  23. Remove nut (35) and disconnect ground strap (33), ground strap (34), and ground strap (36).

  24. Attach a suitable lifting device to electric starting motor (37). The weight of electric starting motor (37) is approximately 36 kg (80 lb).

  25. Remove three bolts (38), electric starting motor (37), and the gasket.

  26. Discard the gasket.

  27. Position electric starting motor (37) on the C-frame as shown in Illustration 16.

  28. Remove the suitable lifting device.

  29. Attach a suitable lifting device to electric starting motor (37) as shown in Illustration 17. The weight of electric starting motor (37) is approximately 36 kg (80 lb).

  30. Remove electric starting motor (37).

Installation Procedure

  1. Install electric starting motor (37) in the reverse order of removal.

    1. Install a new gasket for electric starting motor (37).

    2. Tighten nut (35) to a torque of 30.5 ± 3.5 N·m (270 ± 31 lb in).

    3. Tighten nut (31) to a torque of 30.5 ± 3.5 N·m (270 ± 31 lb in).
