New support for Laser, Cross Slope and Sonic

Laser functionality is configured using the "Machine Settings" menu. The user must restore the machine settings file in order to swap between a 2D and a 3D system. The user must restore the machine settings file in order to swap between the left and the right laser configuration.

The valve calibration for a laser system is only done using the AS400 angle sensor and not the laser receiver.

The system requires measurements in/out and back/forward from the blade tip

Benching is done from the "Setup" Menu. Press and hold the "OK" key in order to shortcut to the Bench screen.

A new "Laser" Softkey is available. The "Laser" Menu has the following features:

  • Shows where the laser strikes are hitting the receiver

  • Allows the user to move the masts up/down in order to find the laser

  • Allows the user to return to the benched position after moving the masts

  • Allows the operator to enter the "Bench" screen

The "Linked Calibration" has a added feature of an Electric Mast calibration. This feature allows for more precision.

A new stability slider is available in the "Setup" Menu for Laser/dozer only function. This feature allows the user to tune the stability of the automatics performance. Different speeds may need a different stability value.

A new calibration is available for the Blade Slope sensors. This allows the user to enter an actual slope angle. This feature allows for the blade to not be level when calibrating the AS400 angle sensor.

Support For Position "Snippets" Called .Tag Files

This feature is used in conjunction with AccuGrade Office version 7 in order to create "as-built" information and production data.

Other New Software Features

  • There is a new shortcut to the "Language" menu. Press and hold the Menu key during Power up

The GPS log function has been replaced by the "Zsnap" function. Press the "Menu" key and "F4" in order to record and bundle the following information:

  • Screen snap

  • CAN log of the previous five minutes

  • Display and machine registry settings

The information can then be decoded using a Caterpillar internal application.

Table 2 lists the minimum version levels of software that are required for the AccuGrade components. If the AccuGrade Version 10.70 Software is used with system components that have older versions of software, the "Diagnostics" screen will be displayed. The "Diagnostics" screen will show the correct version of software that is required.

ReferenceRefer to the applicable Systems Operation, Troubleshooting, Testing and Adjusting, "Display Firmware Upgrade" for detailed information of upgrading the system firmware.

Note: If the radio software is not the required version level, the radio will be listed as "Not Found" and the "Diagnostics" screen will continue to prompt the operator that a problem exists.

The latest firmware is available on the download page of SIS web. The "Download Section" is accessed by clicking on the "Downloads" link (6) on the SIS web home page. Refer to Illustration 5.

This download is a self-extracting zip file that contains all the current production software for AccuGrade 3D version 10.7 on Motor Graders, Track-Type Tractors, Excavators, and Compactors.

Once the software is extracted, the software is broken into three main folders with sub-folders in order to help clarify the use of the different file types. The software may be in two different file types if the component can be updated through the display (*.s) as well as through Caterpillar Electronic Technician (*.fls).

There is an operating system upgrade, a power supply code upgrade as well as the .sq2 file when you move from V10.01 to V10.7. The files (.bin, .sq2, .s) in Table 3 need to be on the root folder of the card. Turn off the power to the machine. Install the card in the display and then repower the machine. Press the display power button and you will be prompted to update. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the update. The pre-update .mch and .dsp files are automatically restored to the display, however save the files to the card before upgrading.

Folder Structure of the Self-extracting Zip File

Display - Contains the display firmware (*.SG2)

Radio - Contains the Radio folders that have instructions and firmware in order to update the radio.

Sensors - Contains two subfolders, which are Cat ET Flashable and Display Flashable. The AccuGrade components for the Excavator system must be upgraded via the display. Some of the AccuGrade components can be flashed with Cat ET and will use a *.fls file type. The Display can be used in order to upgrade the AccuGrade components by placing the *.s file on the root directory of the data card and entering the "Upgrade Software" menu on the display.

Valve Module - Contains firmware for Valve Modules
