- Engine:
- 3508 (S/N: 96Y1-UP; 68Z1-UP)
- 3512 (S/N: CMJ1-UP; FDR1-UP; 50Y1-UP; 65Z1-UP; 66Z1-UP)
- 3516 (S/N: 27Z1-UP; CMD1-UP)
Running a 3500 engine at reduced load for several hours may cause oil consumption and may cause carbon to build in the combustion chamber. Every four hours, load the engine at full speed in order to burn the carbon from the combustion chamber. This periodic operation at rated speed also provides increased engine oil to all of the wear components.
Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, SEBU6100, "3508, 3512 AND 3516 DIESEL MARINE ENGINES".
If extended operation at a low idle cannot be avoided, the 9Y-1770 Socket for the rocker arm has been re-released. This provides additional engine oil to the joint between the adjustment screw and the pushrod.
Note: The 9Y-1770 Socket is not recommended for engines that operate within the guidelines of the Operation and Maintenance Manual.
