--------------- END SUPPLEMENT ---------------
Description of Change: Improved seals are now available for BrakeSavers used on 3406, 3406B and 3408 Truck Engines. The new seals prevent leakage better than the former seal.
Adaptable As: The 9N6600 Seal has been replaced by a 4W8133 Seal in the front of the BrakeSaver (crankshaft side) and a 4W8134 Seal in the rear of the BrakeSaver.
The new seals are also part of the 6V4748 Seal Kit.
The new seals are in effect on 3406 Truck Engines 92U66336 and 3406B Truck Engines 7FB2956 and can be adapted to BrakeSavers on earlier 3406 and 3408 Truck Engines.
Because of the design of the new seals, special handling precautions are necessary. Refer to Special Instruction, Form SMHS8008, for information for the handling of these seals. The new seals are of the same design as the crankshaft seals in the Special Instruction. All of the information, except for the tooling, is applicable to the new seals.
The tools needed to install the new seals are shown in the chart. Special Instruction, Form SMHS8301, describes how the tools are used and provides application information for the seal groups. The seals are assembled on the wear sleeve and the two parts must NOT be separated.
