Removal Procedure

Start By:

1. Remove the fixed axle. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Fixed Axle (Front) - Remove and Install".
2. Remove the oscillating axle. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Oscillating Axle (Rear) - Remove and Install".

Note: Make sure that the intermediate housing of the differential is positioned on the top when you locate the axle assembly in Tooling (A) .

1. Remove the service brake from the intermediate housing. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Service Brakes- Remove and Install".

2. Fasten a hoist and suitable lifting slings to intermediate housing assembly (1). Remove three bolts (2) and intermediate housing assembly (1). The weight of intermediate housing assembly (1) is 82 kg (180 lb).

3. Remove two connectors (8) from header (7) .

4. Remove six bolts (6) which hold header (7) and the cooler assembly (3) together.

5. Remove six bolts (5) which hold header (7) in place.

6. Remove three bolts (4) which hold cooler assembly (3) in place.

7. Remove cooler assembly (3) .

Installation Procedure

1. Install cooler assembly (3) .

2. Install three bolts (4) which hold cooler assembly (3) in place.

3. Apply 8C-8422 Sealant to the mating surfaces of header (7) and cooler assembly (3). Apply 8C-8422 Sealant to the mating surfaces of header (7) and differential housing.

4. Install six bolts (6) which hold header (7) and cooler assembly (3) together.

5. Install six bolts (5) which hold header (7) in place.

6. Install two connectors (8) on header (7) .

7. Fasten a hoist and suitable lifting slings to intermediate housing assembly (1). The weight of intermediate housing assembly (1) is 82 kg (180 lb).

8. Apply 8C-8422 Sealant to the mating surfaces of the differential housing and intermediate housing assembly (1).

9. Install intermediate housing assembly (1) and three bolts (2) .

10. Install the service brakes. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Service Brakes- Remove and Install".

End By:

1. Install the fixed axle. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Fixed Axle (Front) - Remove and Install".
2. Install the oscillating axle. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Oscillating Axle (Rear) - Remove and Install".
