Removal Procedure

Start By:

1. Remove the turbocharger. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Turbocharger - Remove".
2. Remove the aftercooler. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Aftercooler - Remove".

1. Remove bolts (6) . Remove bolts (1) from flange (7) . Remove elbow (5) from exhaust manifold assembly (2) . Remove O-ring seal (4) from the elbow.

2. Remove O-ring seal (3) and gasket (8) from exhaust manifold assembly (2) .

3. Remove the locknuts and spacers from taperlock studs (9) . Remove exhaust manifold assembly (2) from the cylinder head.

4. Remove connector (10) from the exhaust manifold assembly. Remove O-ring seals (11) from the connector.

5. Remove exhaust manifold gasket (13) from the cylinder head.

6. If necessary, remove taperlock studs (12) from the exhaust manifold assembly.

Installation Procedure

1. If taperlock studs (9) were removed from the cylinder head, install the taperlock studs in the cylinder head and tighten to a torque of 35 ± 5 N·m (26 ± 4 lb ft).

2. Install exhaust manifold gaskets (13) on taperlock studs (9) .

3. Apply Tooling (A) to the threads of taperlock studs (9) .

4. Install O-ring seals (11) on connector (10) . Apply Tooling (B) to the O-ring seals. Install connector (10) in the exhaust manifold assembly.

Note: Discard the locknuts after use. Use new locknuts for installation.

5. Install exhaust manifold assembly (2) in position on taperlock studs (9) . Install the spacers and locknuts finger tight.

Tightening sequence

6. Tighten the locknuts for the taperlock studs in a numeric sequence to a torque of 38 ± 5 N·m (28 ± 4 lb ft).

7. Install O-ring seal (3) and gasket (8) on exhaust manifold assembly (2) .

8. Install O-ring seal (4) on elbow (5) . Install the elbow on exhaust manifold assembly (2) .

9. Position flange (7) and install bolts (1) .

10. Install bolts (6) .

End By:

1. Install the aftercooler. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Aftercooler - Install".
2. Install the turbocharger. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Turbocharger - Install".
