Bevel Gear And Shaft

Usage:

Disassemble Bevel Gear And Shaft

start by:

a) remove steering clutches

1. Remove steering clutches from the bevel gear shaft.

2. Remove the bearing cages (1) and (2).

3. Remove the bearing cups from both cages with a press and tool (A).

4. Use tooling (B) to remove the bearing cone (3) from the shaft.

5. Remove twelve bolts (4) from the bevel gear (5).

6. Use a press and tool (C) to remove the shaft (6) from the bevel gear.

7. Use tooling (B) to remove bearing cone (7) from the shaft.

Assemble Bevel Gear And Shaft

1. Install three 5/8"-11 NC guide pins (1) in the bevel gear (2). Put the shaft (3) in position on the gear and install with a press and tool (A).

2. Install the twelve bolts that hold the bevel gear to the shaft. Tighten the bolts to a torque of 220 ± 20 lb.ft. (295 ± 25 N·m).

3. Heat the two bearing cones (4) to a maximum temperature of 275°F (135°C) and install on the shaft.

4. Install the bearing cups (5) in the cages (6) with a press and tool (B).

5. Install the cages (7) and (8) on the shaft.

6. Install the steering clutches on the shaft.
