Usage:

Remove Sprocket Assemblies

start by:

a) remove track roller frame

1. Remove the bolts from the cap. Remove cap (1).

2. Remove the bolts from the guard. Remove guard (2).

3. Remove the lock (3) and nut (4) from the sprocket shaft.

4. Remove the retainer assembly (5).

5. Remove the shims (6) and support assembly (7).

6. Remove the bolt and lock (9).

7. Turn nut (8) in a counterclockwise direction with tool (A) and remove the holder assembly (10) from the sprocket shaft.

8. Remove the Duo-Cone seal (11) from the nut (8). Remove the holder assembly (10) from the cage. Remove the nut from the cage.

9. Use tooling (B) and a press to remove the bearing cup (12) from the cage (13).

10. Remove the Duo-Cone seal (14) from the sprocket assembly. Put identification on seals so they will not be mixed at assembly.

11. Remove key (15) from the sprocket shaft.

12. Bend the tab on the lock (16) out of the groove in the nut (17).

13. Turn nut (17) counterclockwise with the wrench from tooling (C) to move the bearing cone off the hub. Move the bearing cone until the yoke from tooling (C) can be installed between the nut and bearing cone. The yoke will prevent damage to the bearing cone. Remove the bearing cone (18) from the hub.

------ WARNING! ------

The sprocket is installed with a force of 20 to 25 ton (180 to 225 Kn). It is important that the nut (17) is in the correct position on the hub so that the sprocket (19) will not fall from the hub. Put the nut (17) in position until there is a distance of 1/2 in. (12.7 mm) between the nut and the sprocket.

--------WARNING!------

14. Install tooling (D) and loosen sprocket (19).

15. Remove tooling (D). Fasten a hoist to the sprocket. Remove the nut from the hub. Remove the sprocket. The weight of the sprocket is 155 lb. (70 kg).

16. Remove the Duo-Cone seals (20) from the sprocket and case. Put identification on the seals so they will not be mixed at assembly.

17. Remove three screws and remove the retainer (21). Remove the O-ring seal from the back of the retainer. Turn the sprocket over and remove the other retainer and seal.

Install Sprocket Assemblies

1. Put a small amount of 5P960 Multipurpose Type Grease on the O-ring seal (2). Install the O-ring seal in the retainer. Put the retainer (1) in position on the sprocket and install the three screws that hold it in position.

2. Turn the sprocket over and do the procedure in Step 1 again for the other side.

3. Install the Duo-Cone seal (3) in the sprocket with tool (A).

4. Install the Duo-Cone seal in the final drive gear case with tool (A).

NOTE: The rubber seals and all surfaces that make contact with the seals must be clean and dry. After installation of the seals, put a small amount of SAE 30 oil on the contact surfaces of the metal seals.

5. Fasten a hoist to the sprocket. Put the sprocket (4) in position on the hub.

6. Put tooling (B) in position and install the sprocket with a force of 20 to 25 ton (180 to 225 Kn). Remove tooling (B).

7. Check dimension (Y) after the sprocket is installed. Dimension (Y) must be .12 ± .06 in. (3.1 ± 1.5 mm).

8. Install the Duo-Cone seal in the sprocket with tool (A).

NOTE: The rubber seals and all surfaces that make contact with the seals must be clean and dry. After installation of the seal put a small amount of SAE 30 oil on the contact surface of the metal seal.

9. Install the lock (4) and nut (5) on the hub. Tighten the nut to a torque of 350 ± 50 lb.ft. (470 ± 70 N·m). Bend the lock tab down in the groove of the nut.

10. Heat the bearing cone to a maximum temperature of 275°F (135°C). Install the bearing cone (6) on the hub.

11. Lower the temperature of the bearing cup. Install the bearing cup (8) in the cage assembly (9).

12. Install the nut (10) on the cage assembly.

13. Put 5P960 Multipurpose Type Grease on the O-ring seal. Install the O-ring seal in the holder assembly. Install the holder assembly (7) on the cage assembly.

14. Install the Duo-Cone seal (11) in the nut with tool (A).

NOTE: The rubber seal and all surfaces that make contact with the seals must be clean and dry. After installation of the seal put a small amount of SAE 30 oil on the contact surface of the metal seal.

15. Put the cage assembly and holder assembly (7) as a unit on the sprocket shaft.

16. Put the support assembly (14) in position on the holder assembly. Install shims (13) on the dowels in the holder assembly. See ALIGNMENT OF TRACK ROLLER FRAMES for the correct amount of shims.

17. Install retainer assembly (15) and nut (16). Tighten the nut to a torque of 350 ± 50 lb.ft. (470 ± 70 N·m). Put the lock (17) in position on the dowels of the retainer.

18. Turn the nut on the holder assembly in a counterclockwise direction and tighten to a torque of 900 to 1200 lb.ft. (1220 to 1620 N·m). Install the lock (12) and bolt in the holder assembly.

19. Install the guard (18) over the holder assembly.

20. Put the gasket and cover (19) in position on the support assembly. Install the bolts that hold it.

21. Make an adjustment to the final drive sprocket and hub bearings. See LUBRICATION AND MAINTENANCE GUIDE.
