Usage:

Remove Final Drive Cases, Gears, And Hubs

start by:

a) remove sprocket assemblies

1. Drain the oil from the final drive cases.

2. Remove bolts (1) from the case assembly (2).

3. Install two 3/8"-16 NC forcing screws (3) in the case assembly. Loosen the case assembly with the forcing screws. Remove the case assembly with two persons. The weight of the case assembly is 96 lb. (44 kg).

4. Install a 6-40 screw in dowel (4). Remove dowel.

5. Remove the bearing race and roller assembly from the case assembly with tooling (A).

6. Fasten a hoist to the gear and hub as shown. Remove the gear and hub (5) from the sprocket shaft. The weight of the gear and hub is 125 lb. (56 kg).

7. Remove bearing cone (6) from hub with tooling (B).

8. Remove bolts and nuts (7) and remove the hub from the gear (8). The weight of the hub is 55 lb. (25 kg).

9. Remove the bearing race from the pinion shaft with tooling (C).

10. Remove the bearing cup from the steering clutch case with tooling (D).

Install Final Drive Cases, Gears And Hubs

1. Heat the bearing race to a maximum temperature of 275°F (135°C). Put the bearing race (1) in position on the pinion shaft with the large diameter of the bearing race toward the pinion shaft.

2. Lower the temperature of the bearing cup. Install the bearing cup (2) in the steering clutch case. Make sure the bearing cup is even with the machined surface of the steering clutch case.

3. Put the hub (3) in position in the gear (4). Install the bolts and nuts that hold the hub to the gear. Tighten the nuts to a torque of 60 ± 5 lb.ft. (80 ± 7 N·m). Turn the nuts an additional 120° ± 5°.

4. Heat the bearing cone to a maximum temperature of 275°F (135°C). Put the bearing cone (5) in position on the hub.

5. Fasten a hoist to the hub and gear assembly (6). Put the hub and gear assembly in position on the sprocket shaft.

6. Put the hole in the bearing race and roller assembly in alignment with the hole in the case assembly. Use tooling (A) to install the bearing race and roller assembly. Install the dowel that holds the bearing race and roller assembly in position in the case assembly.

7. Install two 1/2"-13 NC guide bolts (8) in the steering clutch case. Install a new gasket on the steering clutch case. Put the case assembly (7) in position on the steering clutch case. Install the bolts that hold it in position.

NOTE: Put 5P960 Multipurpose Type Grease in the bearing race and roller assembly to make easier the installation of the case assembly on the pinion shaft.

8. Fill the final drive cases with oil to the correct level. See LUBRICATION AND MAINTENANCE GUIDE.
