A New Personality Module is Available for G3600 Engines {1902, 7620}

Usage:

G3612 1YG
Engine:
G3606 (S/N: 3XF1-UP)
G3608 (S/N: 4WF1-UP)
G3612 (S/N: 1YG1-UP)
G3616 (S/N: 4CG1-UP)

A new personality module is available for G3600 engines that are equipped with the Engine Supervisory System (ESS) and with electrohydraulic actuators. The new personality module eliminates the following "warning" diagnostic codes:

  • 023-02 Loss of Fuel Actuator Feedback signal

  • 525-02 Loss of Choke Actuator Feedback signal

  • 526-02 Loss of Wastegate Actuator Feedback signal

If you have an existing engine condition that requires frequent adjustments of the position feedback signals in order to correct the diagnostic codes that are listed above, the new personality module can be installed in order to eliminate the codes.

The new personality module still supports the following "shutdown" diagnostic codes:

  • 023-07 Fuel Actuator improper response

  • 525-07 Choke Actuator Feedback improper response

  • 526-07 Wastegate Valve improper response

The new personality module still requires adjustment of the position feedback signal for the actuators. Adjusting the position feedback signal accurately calibrates the actuators.

This new personality module is only available through the parts system. In order to properly define the configuration for the new personality module, a "Personality Module Request Form" must be submitted to the Service Center at the Caterpillar Large Engine Center. The Service Center will respond with the appropriate part number that can be ordered through the parts system. This process may take approximately eight weeks.

Illustration 1 is the "Personality Module Request Form". The form includes all of the information that is required in order to process your request. The following list explains the entries on the form:

"Engine Load (Percent) for Combustion Fedback" - In the combustion feedback mode, the combustion sensors provide feedback to the engine as the fuel quality varies. The combustion feedback mode is enabled at a particular engine load. A typical value is 50 percent load.

Type of Actuators - There are three different types of actuators: Hydrax actuator, 42 degree and 90 degree.

Detonation Mixing Control (DMC) - DMC expands the detonation protection of the G3600 engines. DMC monitors the detonation levels by monitoring the detonation sensors (one sensor for each two adjacent cylinders).

Type of Aftercooler - The air flow through a two-stage aftercooler is different from the air flow through an aftercooler with a single stage. A two-stage aftercooler requires a different map for the choke.

Display Units - The system displays the information in metric units or in English units.

Type of Turbocharger - Two types of turbochargers are currently available: VTC 254 and TPS 57D

System's Response to Diagnostic Codes for the Choke - In some applications, diagnostic codes for the choke are programmed to shut down the engine.

Type of Starting System - Air start and electric start are the two types of starting systems that are offered.

Prelube Time - The default time for the prelubrication for G3600 engines is 30 seconds. Some applications require a fast start. In these applications, the prelubrication is continuous in order to bypass the 30 second prelube time.

Diagnostic for the Gas Shutoff Valve (GSOV) - If the GSOV that is provided by Caterpillar has been removed, the diagnostics for the GSOV must be disabled.

Continuous Misfire for Cylinder "X" - If a "continuous misfire" code is activated, the system's response can be programmed to be an alarm or a shutdown.

Failure of the Ignition for Cylinder "X" - If a "ignition failure" code is activated, the system's response can be programmed to be an alarm or a shutdown.
