Connecting Rod Bearings - Install

Installation Procedure


NOTICE

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.

Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.

    Note: Apply clean engine oil on the connecting rod bearings for final assembly.

  1. Install a new lower half connecting rod bearing (4) in connecting rod bearing cap (2) .

  1. Install a new upper half connecting rod bearing (4) in connecting rod (3) .

  1. Pull connecting rod (3) onto the crankshaft.

  1. Check the bearing clearance. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Bearing Clearance - Check".

  1. Install connecting rod bearing cap (2) and connecting rod bolts (1). Ensure that the number on the side of connecting rod bearing cap (2) is on the same side as the number on connecting rod (3) .

  1. Tighten connecting rod bolts (1) to a torque of 54 ± 5 N·m (40 ± 4 lb ft).

  1. Place an index mark on each connecting rod cap bolt. Tighten each bolt (1) for an additional 60 ± 5 degrees (1/6 of a turn).

  1. Repeat Steps 1 through 7 in order to install the remainder of the connecting rod bearings.

End By: Install the engine oil pump. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Engine Oil Pump - Install".
