When you are using hydraulic cylinders and puller studs, always ensure that the rated capacity of the puller stud meets or exceeds the rated capacity of the hydraulic cylinder. If the puller stud does not meet or exceed the rated capacity of the hydraulic cylinder, a sudden failure of the puller stud could occur. The sudden failure of the puller stud could result in personal injury or death.

  1. Use Tooling (E) to install bearing (21) in grapple housing (20). Install bearing (21) in grapple housing (20) to Dimension (Z). Dimension (Z) is 5 ± 0.5 mm (0.2 ± 0.02 inch).

  2. Install lip seals (22).

  3. Attach Tooling (A), Tooling (B), and a suitable lifting device to the housing of grapple arrangement (1). Refer to Table 2 for the approximate weight of grapple arrangement (1).

    Note: Tooling (A), Tooling (B), and a suitable lifting device will be attached to grapple arrangement (1) during the assembly procedures.

  4. Attach a suitable bar and a suitable lifting device to position shell assembly (19). Refer to Table 3 for the approximate weight of shell assembly (19).

  5. Align the bores of shell assembly (19) and the bores of the grapple housing.

  6. Coat the bores for pin (17) with Tooling (F). Install pin (17). Repeat for the other pin.

  7. Install grease fitting (18) to pin (17).

  8. Apply Tooling (G) to the threads of bolt (15). Install plate (16) and bolt (15).

  9. Repeat Steps 7 and 8 for the other pin.

  10. Use Tooling (D) and a suitable press to install bushings (14) in link assemblies (7). Install bushings (14) to Dimension (Y). Dimension (Y) is 5 ± 0.5 mm (0.2 ± 0.02 inch).

  11. Install lip seals (13).

  12. Connect link assemblies (7) to cover assembly (8).

  13. Use a suitable bar and a suitable lifting device to support link assemblies (7) and cover assembly (8). The combined weight of link assemblies (7) and cover assembly (8) is approximately 60 kg (132 lb).

  14. Align the bores of shell assembly (6) to the bores of link assemblies (7).

  15. Coat the bores for pin (12) with Tooling (F). Install pin (12).

  16. Apply Tooling (G) to the threads of bolts (9). Install grease fitting (11), plate (10), the washers, and bolts (9).

  17. Use a suitable bar to support link assemblies (7). The combined weight of link assemblies (7) and the cover assembly is approximately 60 kg (132 lb).

  18. Attach a suitable bar and a suitable lifting device to shell assembly (6). Refer to Table 4 for the approximate weight of shell assembly (6).

  19. Align the bores of grapple housing (20) and the bores of shell assembly (6).

  20. Coat the bores for pin (4) with Tooling (F). Install pin (4). Repeat for the other pin.

  21. Install grease fitting (5) to pin (4).

  22. Apply Tooling (G) to the threads of bolt (3). Install plate (2), the washers, and bolt (3).

  23. Repeat Steps for the other pin.

End By:

  1. Install the hydraulic cylinder.
