SCT673 Truck Mounted PumperPOD Caterpillar

Manual Stop Procedure

Usage:

SCT673 4TZ

NOTICE

Stopping the engine immediately after the engine has been operating under a load can result in overheating and accelerated wear of the engine components.

Allow the engine to gradually cool before stopping the engine.

There may be several ways to stop the engine. Ensure that the stopping procedure is understood. Use the following guidelines for stopping the engine.

  1. Disengage the driven equipment. Unload the triplex pump. Refer to the "OEM Operation Manual" for additional information.

  1. Adjust the "DECK RPM CONTROL" switch that is located on the Universal Remote Control Console to low idle. Refer to this Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Universal Remote Control Console" for additional information.

  1. Set the gear selector to the NEUTRAL position.

  1. Increase the speed of the deck engine. The speed must be between 1000 and 1200 rpm. Run the engine at no load for 5 to 10 minutes. This will allow the following situations to occur:

    • The lubricating oil will carry the heat away from the turbochargers. This will prevent premature bearing failure.

    • The engine coolant will distribute heat from the engine evenly through the cooling system. This will prevent cracks in the cylinder heads.

  1. Decrease the speed of the deck engine to low idle.

  1. Permit the deck engine to idle for at least one minute.

  1. Move the "DECK START/RUN/KILL" switch to the "KILL" position.

  1. When the deck engine's tachometer displays zero, turn the "MASTER POWER" switch to the OFF position.

  1. Turn the "MAIN POWER DISCONNECT" switch, that is located on the side of the junction box, to the OFF position. Refer to this Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Junction Box" for additional information.

Note: Failure to turn the "MAIN POWER DISCONNECT" switch to the OFF position will drain the batteries. If the pumper will not be used for an extended time, trip the circuit breakers. The circuit breakers are located inside the main junction box.
