Power End Oil and Filter - Change

NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.


Drain the Oil

Hydraulic tank

(1) Filler cap

(2) Strainer cover

(3) Sight gauge

(4) Drain valve

Before starting this procedure, be sure that the deck engine is stopped.

  1. Open drain valve (4) in order to drain the oil.

  1. Remove strainer cover (2) .

  1. Remove the strainer and clean the strainer.

  1. Replace the strainer and the strainer cover.

  1. After the oil has drained, close the drain valve.

  1. Relieve any pressure in the oil filter or in the oil line.

  1. Remove the drain plug that is located on the side opposite of oil filter bypass indicator (8) .

  1. In order to remove oil filter cover (6), rotate the oil filter cover counterclockwise.

  1. Remove the oil filter element from the oil filter housing.

  1. Replace the oil filter element. Be sure that the oil filter is placed in the center of the oil filter housing over the locator that is in the oil filter base.

  1. Inspect the O-ring that is for the oil filter cover. Replace the O-ring if the O-ring is damaged.

  1. Install the oil filter cover on the oil filter housing and tighten the oil filter cover to 61 N·m (45 lb ft).

  1. Replace the drain plug and tighten the drain plug to 27 N·m (20 lb ft).

Fill the Tank

Fill the tank with approximately 151.5 L (40.00 US gal) of lubricant. For information on the proper lubricant to use, refer to this Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Plate Locations and Film Locations".
