The Timing Marks Have Been Improved On The Front and Rear Balancer Gears {1220}

Usage:

3508 23Z
Engines:
3508 (S/N: CNF; 5XM; 3PS; 3TS; 5PW; 95Y; 96Y; 97Y; 23Z; 68Z; 69Z; 70Z)
3508B (S/N: CNB; BNG; 2BM; 3DM; 4GM; 7SM; 2HW; 3DW; 5KW)

The size of the text that identifies the timing marks has been increased on the front and rear balancer gears for these engines. It is easier to read the larger timing marks. Also, a dimple is now used as the timing mark for the Standard Rotation on both the front and rear balancer gears. The use of the improved timing marks will help ensure that the balancer gears are correctly installed. The list that follows identifies the front and rear balancer gear assemblies that have the improved timing marks.

  • 8N-1286 Balancer Gear Assembly (Front)

  • 101-9043 Balancer Gear Assembly (Front)

  • 4P-5457 Balancer Gear Assembly (Rear)

  • 4P-5459 Balancer Gear Assembly (Rear)

  • 101-1371 Balancer Gear Assembly (Rear)

  • 101-1379 Balancer Gear Assembly (Rear)

This illustration shows the locations of the larger text (1) and the new dimple (2) on a typical balancer gear.

Note: Misalignment of the timing marks will result in an imbalance in the engine. This could result in vibration levels that are above the acceptable limits.
