SPT343 Truck Mounted Pumper Caterpillar

Product Description

Usage:

SPT343 5XZ
The SPT343 Truck Mounted Pumper is a pumping unit which is designed for applications that require high horsepower. The pumping unit is mounted on a truck chassis. A 3512B engine provides the power for the pumping unit. The triplex pump delivers fracturing fluids to the well at a high pressure and at a high rate. The fluid ends for the pumping unit may vary. This will depend on the rate and the pressure requirements for the application.

The pumping unit is equipped with a Universal Remote Control Console (URCC). The URCC is used to control the pumping unit. The URCC can be used up to a distance of 38 m (125 ft). From this console, gear selection, throttle control, and emergency shutdown are performed.

The pumping unit is also equipped with a heating system that allows the pumping unit to operate in low temperature climates.

3512B Engine

The engine is a Caterpillar 3512B that is equipped with the following features:

  • Two single-stage, dry air cleaners with service indicators

  • Air compressor that is rated at 10 cfm

  • Electronic control module

  • Fuel/water separators with rock guards on bottom bowls

  • Oil coolers

Lubrication Systems

Power End Lubrication

The system for the power end lubrication provides lubrication for the triplex pump's crankshaft and the triplex pump's crossheads. The system for the power end lubrication is driven by a hydraulic pump that is mounted on the auxiliary drive for the transmission.

The system for the power end lubrication is active when the deck engine is operating. A 227 L (60 US gal) oil reservoir is located under the driveline of the deck engine near the center of the truck. The oil reservoir supplies oil to the hydraulic system. The oil reservoir should be filled with lubricating oil and the oil reservoir should be kept full.

An air to oil heat exchanger cools the lubrication system. A thermostatic valve is located in the hydraulic line immediately after the pump. The thermostatic valve routes oil to the air to oil heat exchanger when the oil temperature reaches 60 °C (140 °F).

Fluid End Lubrication

The system for the fluid end lubrication provides lubrication for the packing of the triplex pump. The lubrication system is an air over the top of oil type. The system is driven by air pressure.

The lubrication reservoir is an ASME coded carbon steel pressure vessel that is registered with the National Board. The lubrication reservoir has a 60.5 L (16 US gal) capacity with 101.6 mm (4 inch) filler cap, a level indicator and a 19.05 mm (0.75 inch) drain valve.

The lubrication system includes the following components:

  • Solenoid valve

  • Pressure regulator

  • Flow divider valve

  • Flow control valve

  • Check valves

  • Relief valve

  • Liquid filled pressure gauge

  • Carbon steel catch tank

The carbon steel catch tank has a drain valve on the bottom of the tank. The lube system is off when the driveline brake is on. The oil drain is located under the pistons of the triplex pump. Oil drains into a carbon steel catch tank that is located on the right rear of the truck. The carbon steel catch tank should be drained regularly. For information on the proper lubricant to use, refer to this Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Plate Locations and Film Locations".

Suction Stabilizer

The SPT343 Truck Mounted Pumper is equipped with a suction stabilizer in order to reduce pulsation in the fluid end and the discharge lines. The stabilizer is installed at the forward end of the suction pipes. The stabilizer must be properly charged and maintained. The cartridge that is internal to the stabilizer must be charged with nitrogen to 206 kPa (30 psi).

Hydraulic Starting System

The hydraulic starting system consists of a hydraulic starting motor that is driven by a hydraulic pump. The hydraulic pump is driven by the tractor transmission's power take-off. A solenoid valve is used to direct oil to the hydraulic starting motor when the deck engine's start switch is engaged.

Cooling Systems

The six cooling systems on the SPT343 Truck Mounted Pumper consist of the following cooling circuits:

  • The engine jacket water is cooled by a conventional radiator that is mounted horizontally. The engine water pump circulates the jacket water.

  • The aftercooler cooling system is a conventional radiator that is mounted horizontally. The engine water pump circulates the coolant.

  • The transmission oil is cooled by a jacket water heat exchanger that is mounted on the right side of the engine. The torque converter pump for the transmission circulates the transmission oil.

  • The triplex pump's power end lubrication is cooled by an air to oil heat exchanger that is mounted inside the horizontal radiator.

  • The deck engine's fuel is cooled by a heat exchanger that is mounted inside the horizontal radiator.

  • An air to oil heat exchanger that is mounted inside the horizontal radiator cools the hydraulic fan drive circuit.

Heating System

The SPT343 Truck Mounted Pumper is designed to operate in extremely cold conditions. The pumper is equipped with a heater and a heat exchanger. The heating system provides heat to the following components:

  • Truck engine

  • Deck engine

  • Hydraulic tank

  • Stand pipe for the fuel tank

  • Power end lubrication (tank)

  • In-line fuel heater

  • Heater (battery)

Refer to System Operation, "Heating System" for additional information.

Electrical Controls and Gauge Panel

Electrical Controls

The Universal Remote Control Console (URCC) is used to control the pumping unit. The following functions can be controlled: deck engine, gear selection, throttle control, pump delivery rate and emergency shutdown.

Store the URCC in the storage box that is located under the main junction box. Visual warning and visual indicator lamps are provided for the system parameters that are essential to the operation of the unit. This console is portable up to a distance of 38 m (125 ft) from the SPT343 Truck Mounted Pumper. The URCC is connected to the control system through a 38 m (125 ft) control cable. The control cable has connectors that plug into the URCC on one end. The other end plugs into the main junction box.

Gauge Panel

The gauge panel is located next to the main junction box. The gauge panel provides gauge readings of temperature and pressure. Gauges for the deck transmission and the pump have integral electrical switches. The switches will indicate the temperature to the URCC. The switches will also indicate the pressure conditions to the URCC.

Main Junction Box

The main junction box is the junction point for the following components: deck engine, deck transmission, pump controls and sensors.
