Exhaust Manifold - Remove
Removal Procedure
Start By:
- Remove the oil filter base. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Oil Filter Base - Remove and Install".

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products. Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates. |

Keep all parts clean from contaminants. Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life. |
- Drain the coolant below the level of the exhaust manifold into a suitable container for storage or disposal.
- Remove sensor (2) from the block. Remove two bolts (1) and the washers . Remove detonation module (3) .

- Remove bolts (5) , the nuts, and the washers with spacer (4) .
- Remove fumes disposal tube (6) .
- Remove bolt (7) and the washer . Loosen bolt (8) .

- Disconnect elbow (9) from exhaust manifold (10) . Check the condition of the O-ring seal at the exhaust manifold. If the O-ring seal is worn or damaged, use a new part for replacement.
- Remove bolts (11) , the nuts, and the washers .

- Remove bolts (12) and (13) , the nuts, and the washers.
- Remove two elbows (14) and adapter (15) . Check the condition of the gaskets at the exhaust manifold. If the gaskets are worn or damaged, use new parts for replacement.
- Fasten straps and a suitable lifting device to exhaust manifold (10) . Remove nuts (16) and spacers (17) .

- Remove exhaust manifold (10) . The weight of the exhaust manifold is approximately 27 kg (60 lb).
- Check the condition of the gaskets between the exhaust manifold and the cylinder head assembly. If the gaskets are worn or damaged, use new parts for replacement.
