Cylinder Liner - Remove

Start By:

  1. Remove the cylinder head.
  2. Remove the piston cooling jets.


NOTICE

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.

Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.



NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

  1. Remove two connecting rod cap bolts (2) from each connecting rod. Remove connecting rod caps (4) .

  1. Tap connecting rod (3) away from the crankshaft with a soft hammer. Remove the top half of connecting rod bearing (1) .

    NOTICE

    When removing the cylinder liner, watch the rod, and prevent it from catching on the bore in the cylinder block as it comes out.


  1. Install Tool (A) and remove cylinder liner (5) .

  1. Remove Tool (A) from the cylinder liner.

  1. Remove the connecting rod and the piston from the cylinder liner. Remove seal (6) from the cylinder liner.
