Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to Special Publication, PERJ1017, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products. Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates. |
- Shut OFF the fuel supply to the engine.
- Drain the coolant from the cooling system to a level that is below the housing for the water temperature regulators. Drain the coolant into a suitable container for storage or for disposal.

Illustration 1 g00635075 - Remove the bolts and washers for four flanges (1) that are between the expansion tank and the water temperature regulator housing. Remove four flanges (1) and two tubes (2).
- Remove the seals from the joints between flanges (1) and the expansion tank and the water temperature regulator housing. Discard the seals.
- Drain the fuel from the fuel filters. For instructions, see the Operation and Maintenance Manual.
