Control Switches

The instrument panel has three switches that are used to control the Main Display Module (5).

  1. CLEAR/MODE Switch (7) is used to move between the modes of operation. The switch is used to clear information that is currently displayed on the Main Display Module (5). Main Display Module (5) will cycle through the different modes of operation when CLEAR/MODE Switch (7) is held in the mode position. When the desired mode is reached, release the CLEAR/MODE Switch (7). The Main Display Module (5) will remain in that mode of operation until CLEAR/MODE Switch (7) is held down again. If the information that is currently displayed by the Main Display Module (5) is not needed you can clear the information from the memory. The displayed information can be cleared by holding CLEAR/MODE Switch (7) up for approximately one second until the information disappears from the Main Display Module (5).

  1. SCROLL Switch (6) is used to scroll through the various parameters that are available in a single mode. Main Display Module (5) will scroll through the parameter display information that is available in the selected mode when SCROLL Switch (6) is held in the up position. If you want to display a parameter continuously, hold the SCROLL Switch (6) in the up position until the information is displayed. Then, release SCROLL Switch (6). The parameter information will remain displayed until Main Display Module (5) receives another switch signal.

  1. LH/RH Switch (8) is used to display both the right and left hand parameter information on a single gauge. The LH/RH Switch (8) can be toggled back and forth. Instrument Panels that have 2 Gauge Modules can show values for the right side and the left side.

Caterpillar Monitoring System Main Display Module

The Caterpillar Monitoring System for Generator Set applications with EMCP II/II+ consists of the following items:

  • Main display module

  • Various switches and sensors

The main display module is the brain of the system. This module uses the CAT data link in order to receive information from the electronic components on the engine. The main display module processes this information. The readout on the main display module indicates the following types of information: "°F", "°C", "kPa", "PSI", "RPM", "LITER", "GAL/H", "-10", "VOLTS", Hour Meter symbol, "SERV CODE" and a six digit readout. These indicators are turned ON in order to correspond to the information that is shown on the readout. The readout can also show the following information: Engine operational hours, engine speed, individual gauge numerical values, diagnostic codes for the engine ECM and diagnostic codes for the Caterpillar Monitoring System. The "SERV CODE" indicator turns on in order to indicate that a diagnostic code is currently active.
