NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, PERJ1017, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.


  1. Drain the cooling system until the level of the coolant is below the exhaust manifolds.

  2. Disconnect hose (1) from the water temperature regulator housing. Unless the hose will be replaced, leave the hose attached to the aftercooler.

  3. Disconnect two tubes (2) from the water temperature regulator housing.

  4. Attach Tool (A) and a suitable lifting device. Remove bolts (3). Remove water temperature regulator housing (4).

  5. Remove four water temperature regulators (5). Remove gasket (6).

    Visually inspect ferrule (7) and the seals for water temperature regulators (5). Obtain new parts for assembly, if necessary.
