The Correct Starting Procedure Will Allow The Engine To Attain High Idle On Certain Excavators

Usage:

EXCAVATORS345B (2NW),
345B II (ANJ) EXCAVATORS

Problem:

Under certain conditions, the engine speed (engine rpm) will not increase to position ten on the engine speed dial after the engine is started. Excavators that are configured with a generator set are affected by this problem.

Solution:

Before turning the engine start switch to crank the engine, place the grapple/magnet switch in the Grapple ON position. The grapple/magnet switch is located in the right console. Return the switch to the magnet ON position after the machine has started and the hydraulic tank pressure indicator is not activated. The illustrations show the locations of the switches and the hydraulic tank pressure indicator.

Illustration 1.

The grapple/magnet switch is located on the right console. Remove cover (1) in order to gain access to the switch.

Illustration 2.

Move the grapple/magnet switch (2) into position (4) in order to turn off the generator. When the generator is deactivated, the grapple can be used. Move the grapple/magnet switch (2) into position (3) in order to turn on the generator. When the generator is activated, the magnet can be used.
