Failure Of The Shaft For The Pilot Pump

Usage:

WHEELED EXCAVATORSM318 (8AL2949-2950, 8AL2952, 8AL2955-2957, 8AL2959-2963, 8SS511),
M320 (6WL714-715, 6WL721, 6WL723-724, 9PS354) WHEELED EXCAVATORS

Problem:

The front 153-2663 Shaft of the 187-7419 Gear Pump Group may fail at low hours due to improper heat treatment.

Solution:

Remove and replace the failed 187-7419 Gear Pump Group in accordance with instructions in the service manual.

NOTE: All 187-7419 Gear Pump Groups with a build date code of either 12-00 or 01-01 are affected with this problem. Refer to Illustration #1 and Illustration #2 for the location and the interpretation of the pump build date code.

The above serial numbers include all units assembled at the factory with problem pumps. Units not included in these ranges but equipped with pilot pumps having either of these build date codes are also included.

The Pilot Pump Identification Plate shows the Cat Part Number. Below the part number is the production date.

Shown in Illustration 2 is production date 1200 3199.

NOTE: The first four digits (1200) identify the production date.
