SUBJECT: Some 2P-4472, 7G-0825, and 8P-1656 Clutch Plates May Have Been Shipped Into the Parts System Before Finish Grinding

PROBLEM:

Some 2P-4472, 7G-0825, and 8P-1656 Clutch Plates may have been shipped to dealers prior to finish grinding. The clutch plates are used in various planetary groups in Caterpillar transmissions. The suspect clutch plates are too thick and will reduce the transmission clutch clearances, causing clutch distress. Some 0R-5016 Remanufactured Clutch Plates may have been fulfilled by the 2P-4472 Clutch Plates. Also, some 0R-5009 Remanufactured Clutch Plates may have been fulfilled by the 8P-1656 Clutch Plates.

SOLUTION:

Measure all stock of the following clutch plates that were received between June and October of 2003.

The clutch plate thickness should be 6.35 +/- 0.02 mm (0.250 +/- 0.003 inch). If the parts measure greater than 6.43 mm (0.250 inch) thick, do not use these parts. Quarantine these defective parts for future Parts Stock PSP.

If these defective parts were put into a machine, please contact David Smith for more information.
