SUBJECT: Certain Wheel-Tractor Scrapers May Experience Leaking at the Final Drive Oil Drain Hole
PROBLEM:
The final drive oil drain hole on some 8W-9697 Planet Carriers is improperly located. As a result, the drain hole on the 8W-9804 Wheel and the drain hole on the 8W-9697 Planet Carrier do not align. The misalignment causes the seal to be offset allowing oil to leak out.
The misalignment can be identified by inspecting the drain hole on the assembled wheel. If the drain hole is properly aligned, nearly the entire circumference of the 6F-4855 O-ring inner diameter will be seen. If the O-ring is misaligned then the carrier needs to be modified.

Graphic shows example of misaligned O-ring
In the example above, approximately 50% of the O-ring diameter is visible.
SOLUTION:
Inspect all affected machines and report all findings to Nathan Barnes. Send the information by e-mail to the following address:

SIMS tickets for leaks due to this issue that are not repaired should use PD Code 38 and should report the part causing the failure as 8W-9697 Planet Carrier.
A service letter will be published with the modification details and support information. If the machine can?t wait for the service letter, contact Nathan Barnes at (217) 475-4865, for a repair procedure.
