SUBJECT: THE FAN GUARD MOUNTS MAY FAIL PREMATURELY ON 5110B EXCAVATORS

PROBLEM:

The 128-6462 Mounts on the above listed machines are experiencing premature failure. The rubber 128-6462 Mounts (1) hold the sections of the fan guard together in the 162-9655 Fan Group (see Illustration 1). When the mounts fail the guard may come into contact with the 127-0026 Radiator Hose, possibly causing a coolant leak. A total of eight mounts are used in each fan group.

SOLUTION:

CPI project 62002 has been dedicated to investigating and developing a solution to this problem. To determine the root cause of the problem, the CPI team is asking dealers to return any failed 128-6462 Mounts. Send pictures of the failed mounts while still on the machine, the fan guard, any damage caused by the failure and comments pertaining to the failures, as these would also be helpful.

If the 128-6462 Mounts fail, replace with new 128-6462 Mounts.

Please send pictures and comments to Zach Pieper at zpieper@cat.com or fax to 217-475-4669.

Please ship failed mounts to:
