NOTE: | This Program must be administered either before or after failure. In either case the decision whether to apply the Program is made by the dealer. When reporting the repair, use "PS45319" as the Part Number and "7755" as the Group Number. If administered before failure, use "56" as the Warranty Claim Description Code and "T" as the SIMS Description code. If administered after failure, use "96" as the Warranty Claim Description Code, and "Z" as the SIMS Description Code. |

PROBLEM
NPR incorrectly directed dealers to use 124-8154 head bolt in place of 7N-1961 bolt in 3500 engines. The 124-1854 bolt is not validated for use in 3500 engines, and will need to be removed and replaced with correct parts if installed in a 3500 engine. |

ACTION REQUIRED
Rework 3516 Engine Arrangement 235-0300 with the Serial Number 8WM02540 and Engine Arrangement 100-6339 with the Serial Number 7TR01176 in dealer parts stock and/or dealer exchange inventory which was built with 124-1854 cylinder head bolts. If the engine has been operated on a dyno, the heads will have to be removed and resealed during bolt replacement. If the engine has not been operated, the head bolts can be loosened, replace all 124-1854 bolts with 7N-1961 bolts, and retorque the heads. Refer to the service publications for your specific engine for complete instructions. |
NOTE: Dealer part and service invoices may help identify 3500 engines. Inspect head bolts and replace any 124-1854 head bolts which have been installed. Refer to Image 1 for 124-1854 bolt head identification these bolts can be identified by the letters "AF" on the head. Refer to Image 2 for 7N-1961 or 464-9191 bolts. These bolts can be identified by "F-C" on the head. The valve covers will need to be removed to inspect all bolt heads. The Affected Product applies only if the Off Highway Truck or Excavator is equipped with Engine Serial Number 8WM02540 or 7TR01176 which was built with 124-1854 cylinder head bolts. Replace all 124-1854 bolts with 7N-1961 bolts, reseal, and retorque the heads. Refer to the service publications for your specific engine for complete instructions. |
