Typical Example

Refer to Testing And Adjusting, "Flywheel Runout". This will describe the correct procedure for flywheel inspection.

(1) Put 2P-2506 Thread Lubricant on all of the bolts that hold the flywheel to the crankshaft. Tighten the bolts to the following torque. ... 270 ± 27 N·m (200 ± 20 lb ft)

Note: Do NOT install dowels in the flywheel of G3412 Engines.

(2) Gear

Maximum temperature for installation ... 316 °C (600 °F)

Note: The gear must be installed in the same direction as the gear in the illustration.

Checking The Face Runout Of The Flywheel

(1) Install the dial indicator.

Put a force on the flywheel toward the rear end.

(2) Set the dial indicator to read 0.00 mm (0.00 inch).

(3) Turn the flywheel.

Take readings from the dial indicator at the following intervals. ... Every 90 degrees

(4) The difference between the lower measurements and the higher measurements that are taken at all four points must not be more than the following value. ... 0.15 mm (0.006 inch)

Bore Runout (Radial Eccentricity) Of The Flywheel

Checking The Flywheel Bore

Illustration 4g00286058

Checking The Flywheel Clutch Pilot Bearing Bore

(1) Install the dial indicator (3) . Adjust the universal attachment (4) according to the illustration.

(2) Adjust the dial indicator so that the dial indicator reads the following value. ... 0.00 mm (0.00 inch)

(3) Turn the flywheel.

Take readings from the dial indicator at the following intervals. ... Every 90 degrees

(4) The difference between the lower measurements and the higher measurements that are taken at all four points must not be more than the following value. ... 0.15 mm (0.006 inch)

This value is the maximum permissible bore runout. Bore runout is also known as the radial eccentricity of the flywheel.

(5) The radial eccentricity of the flywheel clutch pilot bearing bore must not exceed the following value. ... 0.13 mm (0.005 inch)
