PROBLEM
Incorrect mounting bolts for the counterweight may have been used during assembly on certain 345C Excavators. The mounting bolts that were used to attach the counterweight to the frame may not be the correct length. This may allow the counterweight to separate from the machine and fall.AFFECTED PRODUCT

ACTION REQUIRED
- Move the machine to a level area in order to perform the rework.
- Refer to Disassembly and Assembly Manual, RENR8612, Counterweight - Remove And Install for the procedure.
- Follow the warning information at the beginning of the procedure.
- One at a time, remove the 190-6820 Bolts and replace with the longer, 127-7678 Bolts. There are 6 bolts per machine. Tighten the bolts to a torque of 2700 Nm +/- 300 Nm (1991 lb ft +/- 221 lb ft).

The mounting bolts that were used to attach the counterweight to the frame may not be the correct length. This may allow the counterweight to separate from the machine and fall, possibly causing personal injury or death. You will not be charged for the service performed.
Contact your local Caterpillar dealer immediately to schedule this service. The dealer will advise you of the time required to complete this service. Please refer the dealer to their Service Letter dated December 1, 2005 when scheduling this service.
