Operator identification menu

Navigation path: Performance Page -> Operator

Note: Passcode security / Operator ID is enabled with the External Authentication Device Installation Status setting. Passcode security / Operator ID can be toggled via Cat® Electronic Technician (ET).

The Operator Menu allows the operator to load Application Profiles, Change Operator ID (if enabled), or Manage Operator passcodes (if enabled). There are 2 types of machine operators:

  • Basic: The Standard operator can log on to the machine and off the machine and change operators but cannot add or delete other operators.

  • Master: The Master Operator can log, add, or delete Standard operators and other Master Operators.

The Operator ID of the current operator can be viewed in the Message Window.

The Operator Icon in the Message Window can be shown in 3 ways. Refer to Illustration 2.

If an Operator Identification number (pass code) has not been entered into the Information Display, the Operator ID numerical keypad will appear. The display will prompt the operator to enter their specific operator pass code.

No Operator is Logged In

If no operator is logged in, there is no current Operator ID (4) visible in the message window. The Operator Icon has been crossed out in the message window but not in the Navigation Path (3).

  1. Press the Change Operator button (1) to enter in an Operator ID passcode. For more information, refer to the following section in this manual:

The machine has a feature called the Machine Security System (MSS). When installed, MSS protects the machine from unauthorized operation. When keying the machine on, the operator will be prompted to enter their numeric passcode or to skip the login. This procedure is also found in the section of this manual:

  • Machine Security System (MSS)

If the Machine Security System (MSS) is enabled but the operator is not detected, the Passcode Entry button (2) and the Skip Log In button (1) are displayed.

Note: If the operator uses a Bluetooth® signal, the keycode will automatically be recognized, as long as Bluetooth® has been installed.

  1. Enter the intended passcode in the Passcode Numerical Keypad. Correct any mistyped numbers by pressing the Backspace button (5).

  2. Press the OK button (6) to enter the intended passcode.

  3. Press the Next button (7) to skip the log in procedure.

If the passcode entry is blocked, a message will appear notifying the operator as seen in illustration 6.

If an operator is logged in, the current Operator ID (2) is visible in the message window. The Operator Icon has not been crossed out in the message window. Operator appears in the Navigation Path (1). Since an operator is now logged in, the Log Out Operator button (5) is now visible.

  1. Press the Change Operator button (6) to enter in an Operator ID passcode.

A Master Operator will have the following options:

Note: There must be at least one Master Operator in the Information Display system. The initial Master Operator acquires the access code through Cat® Electronic Technician (ET). Master Operators can add other Master Operators. However, the Master Operator cannot delete their own identification profile.

The Delete Profile button (9) as seen in illustration 14is no longer available because their custom profiles cannot be created by an operator.

Note: The operating procedure Factory Default profile page is similar to the operating procedures of the Custom Profile Page, which are created by the operator.

  1. The Select Profile page contains a predetermined list of settings for the profile. Review the intended settings by pressing either the Up Arrow button (9) or the Down Arrow button (10). The Menu Sliding Indicator of the Scroll Bar (8) will move along with the page.

  2. Press the Ok button (11) to load and apply the settings to the machine.

  3. Press the Back button (3) to return to the previous page.

  4. Press the Home button (4) to return to the Home page (Performance Page 1)

Note: Profile settings are loaded and applied one time when commanded through the Profiles page. If the operator chooses to adjust any of the Custom Profiles settings outside of that particular Custom Profiles page, the original Profile settings will be lost. The operator can return to that particular Custom Profiles page to reload the desired profile.

Save Profile

Create New Custom Profile

  6. Press the Home button (4) to return to the Performance Page (Home page).

  7. The new Custom Profile button (11), now appears on the Select Profile page. The newly created profile should display the newly created name for that profile in the display.

Change Operator

The Change Operator page allows changing the operator of the machine from one person to another. The Message window (2), identifies the current operator of the machine.

The Change operator page has 2 different selections, depending on how the operator has been entered into the system by the Master Operator:

  • Digital Passcode

  • Hexadecimal Key Code

The Hexadecimal Key Code is used when the display picks up a Bluetooth® signal, if one is installed. For more information, refer to the following section in this manual: Manage Operator

Note: The Search for Key Button will only be visible if Bluetooth® is installed.

Enter a Numerical Passcode

  1. Enter the passcode of the replacement operator by pressing the intended number buttons on the Numerical Keypad. The numeric passcode cannot exceed 7 digits, including leading zeroes.

  2. Correct a mistyped number by pressing the Backspace button (4), then reenter the correct number.

  3. Press the OK button (5) to enter the passcode.

Search for Key button and Choose Key Type

    Pressing the Passcode button (10) will allow the operator to key in a numerical passcode by using a numerical keypad.

    Pressing the Bluetooth® button (9) will allow the operator to search for their access code by locating a Bluetooth® hexadecimal signal.

  3. Press the OK button (5) to set the selection and return to the previous page.

  4. Press the Search for Key button (8) and allow the display to search for the correct key. The Detecting New Key… page will appear. This page will remain until a new key has been detected.

    Note: Pressing the Search for Key button (8) does not log out the current operator.

    Note: Changing the operator will load the machine settings and the display settings that are tied to that particular Operator Identification.

  1. If the master operator wants to create a setting where an operators code is entered manually into a numerical keypad, the master operator would press the Passcode button (11). If the master operator wants to create a setting where the operators code can be located by Bluetooth®, then the master operator presses the Bluetooth® button (10).

    Pressing the Passcode key button (11) will allow the operator to key in a numerical passcode by using a numerical keypad.

    Pressing the Bluetooth® key button (10) will allow the operator to search for their access code by locating a Bluetooth® hexadecimal signal.

  2. Press the intended menu button on the Add Operator button page, refer to Illustration 48. A white mark will be displayed in the selected button.

  3. Press the OK button (3) to set the selection and return to the previous page.

  4. Press the Home button (5) to return to the Performance Page (Home page).

Creating Multiple Master Operators

Entering a New Description

Note: The name cannot be longer than 11 characters.

  1. Enter a new operators name by typing in the name with the alphanumeric keypad (3). The Letter Case Change button (1) is used to toggle between capital letters and lower case letters.

  2. Correct a mistyped letter by pressing the Backspace button (4), then reenter the correct letter.

  3. Press the OK button (5) to set the name.

  4. Press the Back button (6) to return to the previous page.

  5. Press the Home button (7) to return to the Performance Page (Home page).

If the Passcode setting has been selected on the Choose Key Type page, proceed to the following step:

  • Enter a New Passcode (Numerical Keypad)

If the Bluetooth® setting has been selected on the Choose Key Type page, proceed to the following step:

Entering a New Passcode

This section is for master operators who want to set up a new operator with a numerical passcode.

  1. Enter the passcode of the replacement operator by pressing the intended number buttons on the Numerical Keypad. The numeric passcode cannot exceed 7 digits, including leading zeroes.

  2. Correct a mistyped number by pressing the Backspace button (4), then reenter the correct number.

  3. Press the OK button (5) to enter the passcode.

    If the passcode has been entered successfully, a message will appear in the Message Banner indicating that the operator has been successfully added (“Add Operator Successful”). Refer to Add Operator Successful section in this manual. If the passcode has not been entered successfully, a message will appear in the Message Banner. The message indicates that the operator has been successfully added (“Add Operator Failed - Maximum (Max) Reached”). Refer to Add Operator Failed or Maximum (Max) Reached section in this manual.

    The Operator ID of the current operator can be viewed in the Message Window. The Operator Icon in the Message Window can be shown in 3 ways. Refer to Illustration 31.

  4. If a passcode is invalid, the numerical keypad will flash 3 asterisks (***) in the passcode entry box (3). The operator can try to enter the numeric passcode again. Refer to illustration 57.

    Note: If the login procedure is blocked due to several invalid login attempts, a page will appear on the Information Display with the message, “Code Entry Blocked”. The OK button (17) will not be available. While the Code Entry is blocked, the machine will be locked out for 15 minutes.

  5. Press the Back button (6) to return to the previous page.

  6. Press the Home button (7) to return to the Home page.

  1. Enter the key code by using the buttons on the hexadecimal keypad. The passcode cannot exceed 12 characters.

  2. Correct a mistyped character by pressing the Backspace button (4), then reenter the correct character.

  3. Press the OK button (5) to enter the number. The display will indicate that the new key is being detected. Refer to Illustration 37.

  4. If the passcode has not been entered successfully, a message appears telling the operator that the code entry has been blocked. Press the OK button (5) to acknowledge the message.

  5. Press the Back button (6) to return to the previous screen.

If the key code was entered successfully, a message appears in the Message Banner (2) indicating that the operator has been successfully added (“Add Operator Successful”).

Note: If there are more than 5 operators added, a Scroll Bar with a Sliding Indicator will appear. The operator can press the Down Arrow button (3) to begin scrolling. Once the scrolling begins, the Up Arrow button will appear.

  1. Press the OK button (11) to set the data.

If the new operator has been successfully entered, the new operators information will appear in the operators menu button group.

The status for each button can vary. The following is an example of the types of status that each button may have at a particular time:

  • Key Type button can be either Passcode or Bluetooth status

  • Access Level can be either Standard or Master

The Description button will display the information of the name entered in for that specific operator. The Key Code button will display asterisks, not the actual key code that has been entered.

The newly created operator appears on the manage operators menu page.

Add Operator Failed or Maximum (Max) Reached

If the passcode has not been entered successfully, a message will appear in the Lower Information Banner. The message will indicate that the new operator could not be added. The message will state: Add Operator Failed or Max Reached. Failure is possible if the following occurs:

  • The passcode or key code already exists

  • The maximum limit of 25 total operators has been reached

  1. Press the Back button (4) to return to the Application Profile page.

  2. Press the Home button (5) to return to the Performance Page (Home page).

  • The information in the Current Setting Status of the Access Level button (12) shows that the operator has standard operator access.

  • The information in the Status Setting of the Description button (11) shows that the newly created operator is Operator 2.

Delete an Operator

Only a Master operator can add or delete a Standard operator or another Master operator.

  1. Press the Manage Operators menu button (5). The Manage Operators page will appear.

  2. The Master Operator button (13) will delete the Operator 3 button (10) and its related information by performing the following steps:

    • If the intended button is not visible, use the Up Arrow button (when available) or the Down Arrow button (9) to scroll through the page. The Menu Sliding Indicator of the Scroll Bar (8) will move along with the page.

    • Press the intended button to be deleted for example, press Operator 3 (10). The Operator Information page for Operator 3 will appear.

    Note: The icon in the Operator 3 button (10) shows that the operator log-in uses a numerical code.

  3. Enter in the passcode of the operator to be deleted (Example: 2222).

  4. Press the OK button (17) to set the code.

  5. If the information displayed shows the correct operator, press the Delete Operator menu button (18).

    Note: The Delete Profile Confirmation page will ask the operator to confirm if the custom profile should be deleted.

  6. Press the OK button (22) to delete the custom profile. The display will return to the Select Profile page.

  7. Press the Cancel button (21) to cancel the delete procedure. The display will return to the previous page.

  8. The Message Window (2) will indicate that the deletion was successful. The deleted Operator 3’s menu button will no longer be visible on the Manage Operators page. Operator 3's menu button would have been within the bounded box in illustration 72.

  9. If the deletion has failed, the Message Window will indicate failure of deletion. The menu button will still be visible. Press the Back (3) button to return to the previous page.
