Turbocharger Oil Drain Lines Caterpillar

Turbocharger Oil Drain Lines

Usage:

ENGINES3516B (6HN, 7RN),
3616B (FDN, 8NW),
PM3516 (BPD) ENGINES

Problem:

Some of the 116-3261 and 116-3262 Turbocharger Oil Drain Tubes (2) on these engines have developed cracks where the tube enters the 115-3499 Turbocharger Drain Elbow (1) See the illustration.

Solution:

After the failure of a 116-3261 or 116-3262 Turbocharger Oil Drain Tube, use the procedure that follows to install a new turbocharger drain tube.

1. Do not install the 5P-9890 O-Ring Seals on either end of the new 116-3261 or 116-3262 Turbocharger Oil Drain Tube (2). Put the new tube in position in the 115-3499 Turbocharger Drain Elbow (1).
2. Put the 7N-5094 Turbocharger Drain Elbow (4) in position on the bottom of the new tube (2).
3. Make sure that the flat flange surface of the elbow (4) will evenly fit into position on the camshaft cover (5). The elbow must fit without forcing or binding.
4. If the elbow (4) does not fit correctly, loosen the band clamps on the turbocharger cartridge. Slowly rotate the turbocharger cartridge until the elbow (4) fits correctly against the camshaft cover (5) without forcing.
5. Tighten the turbocharger cartridge band clamps.
6. If everything is correct, the tube (2) should require little effort to move up and down in the upper drain elbow (1) and the lower drain elbow (4).
7. Remove the lower drain elbow (4) and remove the tube (2). Install two 5P-9890 O-Ring Seals on each end of the tube. Lubricate the O-ring seals with clean engine oil.
8. Put the tube (2) in position in the upper drain elbow (1).
9. Put the lower drain elbow (4) in position on the bottom of the tube (2).
10. Install the lower drain elbow (4) on the camshaft cover (5).
11. Install the retaining clamp (3) on the tube (2).
