Problem:

There have been several reports of customer complaints about squealing belts in medium and heavy-duty Freightliner/Sterling on-highway truck applications. These squeal issues should NOT be fixed by replacing the automatic belt tensioner. This could lead to premature belt wear and/or pulley bearing wear.

Solution:

Freightliner/Sterling has released a Service Bulletin to their Dealer organization regarding the issue of squealing belts in Caterpillar powered trucks. If you experience this customer complaint, please re-direct the customers to the nearest Freightliner/Sterling Dealership. The customers should the reference the Freightliner/Sterling Service Bulletin; "Caterpillar Accessory Drive Belts".
