SUBJECT: Ground Fault Relay for 3412 and 3456 Griffin Product for North America
A ground fault relay option is available from the 3412 and 3456 Griffin price list. The ground fault relay option is configured at the factory to provide an alarm if there is a generator insulation failure. The customer can reconnect the ground fault relay outputs to the spare GSC inputs in order to generate an engine shutdown and to trip package-mounted circuit breakers.
Note: For Griffin product, the feature code is EMCELR1, the Price List is CA1434, and the Group Number is 212-7051 Relay Group. Serviceable parts are 212-7040 Relay, 212-7041 Harness, and 154-2987 Transformer.
The factory-installed ground fault relay is NOT intended to provide the following protection:
Downstream ground fault area protection
Equipment protection
Personnel protection
Detection of load cable insulation failures
As installed, the ground fault relay will not trip any package-mounted circuit breaker. The current transformer that is used to detect a generator winding ground fault condition is installed around the generator phase and the neutral leads prior to all bonding points. This allows the summing of all currents on the generator neutral leads, thus detecting only a generator winding insulation failure.
