THIS TIB REPLACES THE JULY 31, 2002 ENGINE TIB (TIBU3644-00), COMPONENT CODE 1901, "INACCURATE INDICATION OF TRANSMISSION OIL PRESSURE". DESTROY THE JULY 31, 2002 TIB.

C-12 (9HP) MARINE ENGINES

Component Code 1901

SUBJECT: INACCURATE INDICATION OF TRANSMISSION OIL PRESSURE

PROBLEM:

The transmission oil pressure indicates a positive 32-39 psi with the key in the ON position and engine off; and the transmission oil pressure reading while the engine is running is higher than expected on later 3126B and C-12 Marine Propulsion Engines. The transmission oil pressure reads the same whether using Caterpillar Electronic Technician or when viewing the Marine Power Display. These incorrect transmission oil pressure readings are the result of an internal change on the version eight and version nine engine Electronic Control Modules (ECM).

SOLUTION:

This change will affect all 3126B and C-12 Marine Propulsion Engines as the engines are updated with the newer flash files.

The transmission pressure problem was fixed with the release of the 22x-xxxx software. All subsequent flash files will have the correct transmission oil pressure updates. The new flash file part numbers for each rating are as follows:

In addition to the software change, the transmission oil pressure signal wire must be moved from Pin 15 on the J2/P2 connector on the ECM to Pin 14 on the J2/P2 connector on the ECM. When updating earlier engines using the flash files listed above, or subsequent flash file part numbers, the transmission oil pressure signal wire location must be moved.

The 22x-xxxx prefix software is backward compatible with 179-4898 and 192-7896 ECMs.

The 21x-xxxx prefix and earlier software will not be compatible with the 206-2700 ECM when it is released.
