Use Separate Sampling Pump For Oil and Coolant {7542,7577}

Usage:

All Caterpillar Machines Requiring Scheduled Oil Sampling (SOS)

SUPPLEMENT: OCTOBER 13, 1997

Service Magazine; August 18, 1997; Page 17; "Use Separate Sampling Pump For Oil And Coolant".

The header is incorrect. It should read as follows:

All Caterpillar Machines Requiring S·O·S Fluid Analysis

--------------- END SUPPLEMENT ---------------

The same vacuum sampling pump for extracting oil samples should not be used for coolant samples. The fluid does not enter the barrel of the pump, however a small residue of glycol from the coolant will remain in the pump. This residue will contaminate oil samples and can cause a false positive analysis, which in turn can lead to customer and dealer concerns.

Dealers and customers should designate separate sampling pumps for taking oil and coolant samples.
