Protection Of Unsealed Electrical Terminations For Machines Used In Corrosive Applications{1400}

Usage:

All Caterpillar Machines Used In Corrosive Environment

Reference: Service Magazine Article; April 18, 1983; Page 3; "Protection of Electric System For Machines Used In Corrosive Applications".

Description of Change: An improved silicone sealant is recommended to protect unsealed electrical connections (such as blade terminals, ring terminals, and studs) exposed to corrosive materials such as salt, fertilizer, and chemicals. It is a white non-corrosive cure material which is specifically designed for use with electrical systems.

Adaptable To: The new 8T-0065 Silicone Sealant is recommended for all Caterpillar machines used in a corrosive environment. This provides improved protection compared to the sealant identified in the April 18, 1983 Service Magazine article.

Procedure:

1. Clean and dry the electrical termination to be sealed.

2. Apply the new 8T-0065 silicone sealant, covering all surfaces of the electrical connection including a 1" portion of the wire insulation.
